October 20, Saturday 10:00 to 12:30 Ceremony Honoring the Ancient Big-leaf Maple in Sugarloaf State Park. Fire recovery walk and comments to the tree. Breck Parkman, retired State Parks archiologist speaker. Michael Sheffield poet will read his poem: The Song of the Mountain and the Maple. Walk back for a buffet lunch.



January 22, Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 pm: Haiku Poet Poets of Northern California Meeting.   Michael will lead a workshop on the modern use of kigo which is the season word or phrase in traditional haiku including audience comments and discussion.  Location: Fort Mason Building C- Room 205 San Francisco

March 17, Friday 4:00 to 5:00 pm.  Sonoma Valley Regional Library.  A reading in four parts including Michael’s Haiku, Nature Poetry, Human Nature Poetry and Visionary poetry.   Commentary and discussion included.  Location: Sonoma Valley Regional Library –  577 West Napa St. Sonoma

April 9, Sunday 10:00 – 12:30.  Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.  Docent Naturalist Michael Sheffield will lead a leisurely exploration of the wild flowers, shrubs and trees found along the Meadow Trail, on serpentine and  along the Sonoma Creek riparian habitiate.   We will also learn what forces formed the landscape.

April 28, Friday morning 11:00 – 12:00.  City of Sonoma Arbor Day Ceremony.   Michael will read his poem, “The Mountain and the Creek” written last year for a Sugarloaf Ridge State Park fund raiser.  There will be music, speakers and presentations.  Sonoma Plaza – Grinstead Amphitheater



April 29, Friday 11:00 am: Sonoma Arbor Day Ceremony. Michael will read his poem “The Mountain and the Oak”. There will be other speakers. One hour program. Location: Sonoma City Plaza, Grinstead Stage

August 28, Sunday 1:00 pm. Two Autumns Reading sponsored by Haiku Poets of Northern California. Michael Sheffield is one of four poets selected to read at this annual event. Location: Fort Mason Building C – Room 205 – San Francisco

Oct. 9th – Sunday:.  Sugarloaf State Park Anniversary Dinner. Michael will read his keynote poem”The Story of the Mountain and the Creek”

Nov. 19th – 13th:  Yuki Teikei Haiku Society Annual Haiku Retreat.   Michael will present his workshop: “The Use of Local Kigo in Modern English Language Haiku.”  Speakers – workshops – fellowship –  great lodging and food.   Information and registration: Amy Ostenso  ~
